This page is for use when adding the genre templates to a comic article.
Genre Description
Action Comics which focuses on physical action, often with violence.
Adventure Comics which focus on a character, or multiple characters, who embark on a quest or mission. Usually paired with Action, Fantasy and Science Fiction.
Crime Comics which focus on the commission of a crime and/or those who cause crime. Sub-genre of Action.
Domestic Comics which take place mostly within a characters home.
Drama Comics which have a more serious tone to them, though they can have a balance or near balance of serious and humorous tones. Usually, comics which are not Action or Adventure will be part of this genre.
Erotica Comics which focus on sexual content[1], often explicit, with the intention of causing sexual arousal. Usually these comics will have a Mature rating.
Fantasy Comics which contain elements of the supernatural or themes of magic, but is not too dark in terms of subject matter.
Historical Comics which take place during a historic era or event, but are not necessarily true.
Horror Comics which intend to shock, frighten or horrify the reader, often through use of monsters, ghouls or shocking acts of violence. May include elements of the supernatural, and can also be considered to be Fantasy.
Humour Comics which are not intended to be taken seriously, and rely mostly on humorous dialogue or imagery to amuse the reader.
Jungle Comics which take place within a jungle or rainforest. Often paired with the Jungle Girl Concept. Sub-genre of Adventure.
Martial Arts Comics which centre around characters who tend to use Martial Arts as a way of fighting others. Sub-genre of Action.
Mystery Comics which focus on solving a crime or mystery, or those who attempt to solve them.
Nudist Comics which focus on naturism/nudism and the naturist way of life. These comics may be mistaken as Erotica, and will tend to be paired with Drama.
Parody Comics which spoof, or make fun of, existing franchises or ideas, with humorous intent. This includes anything deemed as satire. Often paired with Humour.
Romance Comics which focus on the romantic relationships of the lead character or characters. Can sometimes be paired with Erotica and/or Drama.
Science Fiction Comics which include something which may not be true according to known science. Usually includes advanced technology, alternative physics or alien lifeforms.
Sport Comics which focus on a sporting activity.
Spy Comics which follow a character or group of characters who are spies or secret agents.
Sword & Sorcery Comics which include characters who partake on adventures, often engaging in conflict and may include themes of the supernatural. Also known as Sword & Sandals. Sub-genre of Adventure and Fantasy.
War Comics which depict the conflicts which take place during a war, fictional or otherwise.
Western Comics which are set in the American Frontier during the 19th and early 20th century. Usually includes cowboys and/or Native Americans. Sub-genre of Action.

  1. Often, comics with a lot of nudity are considered as Erotica, though the nudity should not have an affect on the genre, if in a non-sexual context. Because of this, even if the comic is listed as Erotica, it should not be tagged as such on this site.
